Communications Strategist & Writer

Professional

Thais Freitas 2023

I work in communications roles where the job is to take complex ideas, systems, and priorities and make them clear, useful, and usable for the people who need them.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve led communications across companies in different industries, from healthcare and nonprofits to tech and professional services, shaping messaging, leading multi-channel strategies, and supporting teams through everything from day-to-day content to high-stakes initiatives. Whether I’m working on a website, a campaign, or a national report, my focus stays the same: helping people understand what matters, and what to do next.

I’ve led national communications strategies, managed cross-functional projects, and built content systems that keep messaging consistent across channels. My work spans digital campaigns, internal communications, fundraising, and executive content, always grounded in what the audience needs to understand and act on.

Outside of work, I write books that come straight from life at home with my kids. My first, After the Autism Diagnosis – A practical guide to what comes next, from a mother who’s been there, is coming out soon, written for parents trying to figure out what to do after hearing the word “autism.” I also write children’s books inspired by our everyday life.

Throughout my career I have:

  • Led the full redevelopment of Outward Bound Canada’s website, from information architecture to content, improving traffic by 40% and reducing bounce rate by 25%.

  • Built and scaled a communications agency from a single client to a 10-person team serving over 50 clients across multiple sectors.

  • Secured a $200,000 federal grant through clear, targeted writing aligned with organizational priorities and outcomes.

  • Created strong brand voices and systems, developing frameworks to keep messaging consistent across multi-channel campaigns, annual reports, and executive communications.

  • Led public engagement and communications strategies, including managing a volunteer and partner network of more than 1,300 people across 45 healthcare organizations.

  • Delivered high-performing content across formats, from top-performing fundraising and engagement emails to press releases, crisis communications, and grant applications.

If you’re looking for strategic, thoughtful communications that help people understand what matters, Iet’s connect.
