When my oldest son was diagnosed with autism, I found myself searching for ways to explain it to his siblings, classmates, and other children in our lives. I wanted something simple, positive, and easy for kids to understand, but I couldn’t quite find the book I was looking for. So I wrote it.
My Busy Builder Brain follows Sam, a child whose busy mind is always building, creating, and figuring things out in its own unique way. Through trucks, construction sites, routines, and big feelings, the story helps children understand autism while celebrating the different ways our brains work.
My hope is that this book helps children with autism feel seen and understood, while helping other children develop empathy, curiosity, and appreciation for differences.

That’s My Brother Sam- A Story About Autism, Siblings, and Understanding Each Other
Jack loves his big brother Sam. But sometimes, Sam can be hard to understand.

In That’s My Brother Sam, Jack is learning what autism means for his brother and what it means for him, too. Told from a sibling’s point of view, the story explores the questions, jealousy, frustrations, funny moments, and everyday experiences that can come with having a sibling with autism.
A companion to My Busy Builder Brain, this story makes space for both brothers and their feelings, helping children understand that two people can experience the same family very differently and still love each other fiercely.

It’s grounded in my lived experience with my son, including the mistakes I made, what I learned, and what I wish someone had told me at the time.
